Our vision for the New Taipei Art Museum goes beyond the traditional concept of a building, integrating it into a broader idea: a living ecosystem, a coral reef. In this way, we seek to incorporate into the realm of cultural infrastructure some of the most relevant social, educational, and aesthetic values found in our encounter with nature.
The project consists of a large, semi-buried structure that functions as a water container. Within this structure, there are three trios of partially submerged and interconnected buildings that house most of the museum’s program. Over time, the intricate geometry of these volumes will serve as a skeletal structure for the growth of a coral reef.
Inside, the museum is organized around circulation cores at the intersections of each trio The slabs respond to spatial requirements, generating diverse spatial experiences and visual connections with the submerged ecosystem.
